Our Story
In 1996, Rudy was attending a Dance   in Austin at The Senior Activity Center with one of his students. Karen was   at the same Dance with her mother. Karen asked her mother ?If that Dance   Teacher Guy is here tonight, I want to dance with him.? So Karen?s mother   asked Rudy if he would dance with her daughter and he did ! It just so   happened that the song was ?In The Mood.? That was the beginning.

Rudy has been teaching in Austin   since 1992 as well as the Copperas Cove & Temple area since 1996. So we   decided to look in Temple for a building to rent in order to have a dance   once a month as we were doing in Austin. As we walked around downtown Temple   we found one building with a ?For Sale by Owner? sign in the window.   Intrigued we walked in to have a look. We were thrilled when we saw that is   was all open space. 6600 Square feet of open space! We were told the floor   (under the carpet, 1970 avocado green shag), was all hardwood. We toured the   upstairs, another 6600 square feet - what a great space to renovate for our   home! It did not take us long to decide this would make a great ballroom and   we could live upstairs. So we bought   the building!
After all the paperwork was   completed, renovations were started in April 1999. Working 7 days a week for   7 months we opened the ballroom onNovember 20, 1999.
The upstairs is still a work in   progress!
Research on the building revealed   that in 1885 it was a one story wooden structure only half as large as the   structure today. However by 1888 it was a two story all brick building   occupying both 11 & 13 South Main Street.
McLellans occupied one side of the   building from 1927 and then expanded into the other side in the mid 40?s and   closed in the early 70?s. Through the years a variety of businesses have   occupied the building such as: a General Mercantile, a Fair & Racket   Store, Perry Brothers, Shoe Stores, a Pharmacy and a Tin Shop (in the back of   the building circa 1905). That only covers the downstairs!
Upstairs there have been offices of   Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, Photographers & more.
We have found many items from   McLellans, including perfumes, a wooden top, toy boats, jacks, marbles &   more. We also stumbled onto a treasure trove of old bottles under the   building as we were adding in the plumbing.
So along with the hours of blood,   sweat & tears there were great moments of priceless fun & joy. Like   dancing in our work clothes around & onto ladders & other obstacles!
